Ibex 35 companies and Social Media

Last week the Ibex 35 closed every session positive, reaching maximum levels never before registered since 2011. It´s important to point out that the Spanish stock index is integrated by the 35 companies with larger liquidity quoted in the four Spanish stock exchanges.

For that reason we have decided to analyze the activity performed by these 35 companies in Social Media. First of all, we have to start taking out from our research the 5 companies which are not registered in social networks; IAG, Mediaset, Inditex, Ebroo Foods and Telefónica. These organizations are composed by renowned enterprises which develop their own communication strategies and activities individually, thus they don’t need to have corporate profiles to represent them as a unique group.

The variables used for the analysis; Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Google+, Wikipedia, YouTube and Ios and Android apps, rank the 30 other corporations in the following order;

The results throw back the existence of a sector that clearly gives a higher importance to the social media communication than the others. Our ranking reflects that 5 of the 6 banks present in the index are in the top ten. Above all the banks there are two of them, Banco Sabadell (1) and BBVA (2), which are not only the best ones of their sector but also the best ones of the Ibex 35. Their superiority is based on a large presence and activity in a very different range of social networks.

Among the most active ones we find Iberdrola (3), top of social media in the Oil and Energy sector, leaving behind huge companies, such as; Repsol (11), Gas Natural Fenosa (15), Endesa (16), Red Eléctrica de España (18) y Enagás (21).

Referring to the Construction and Infrastructure sector, Acciona is the best one in social media, getting over companies like; Sacyr Vallehermoso (17), FCC (20), Ferrovial (23), Técnicas Reunidas (24), Grupo ACS (25) and OHL (29).
