Is there a niche for a new dating site?

yunuSix years ago the spanish dating business was still open for new players. It was hard, as Match.com was already strong, but you could make it, as new people were constantly starting to use the Internet for their first time. In fact, at that time, Meeting, a French dating site, opened a shop in Spain. It later surpassed Match.com and is now merging with it. Could this story repeat itself now?

It’s really difficult. There was space for sites for gay people, but Meetic is also approaching this niche. There is probably a place for a place which is able to cut the time that cybedating means for any normal person, by doing some of the filtering work for his/her customer. But I don’t think there is any more space for a new Meetic. The market is full.

I think so, but not everybody agrees. In fact, some friends of mine recently launched a new dating site in Spanish, Yunu. I know dating is a need and it does not stop during crisis. But with so strong players it is extremely hard to create a new data base and offer a value service! In fact, Meetic itself knows very well that this is true, as it lost a lot of money (around $18.5 millon) trying to enter the Chinese market, where there was already a strong company. Good luck anyway!
