Spain, third most active country on social networks

Spain keeps being one of the top countries in terms of social networks. 77% of Internet users do visit a social network at least once every month, according to Nielsen. This rate reaches 86% in Brazil and 78% in Italy. The Brazilian leadership seems to be related to the fast success of Orkut in this country: by September 2005, half of the Internet population had visited this network.

As of time spent on social networking sites, Australia is the top country in the world, with an average of 7 hours 19 min. in April, followed by the US and Italia with around six an a half hours each. Spain ranks not so bad with 5 hours 11 min, right over Brazil. Worldwide social networking usage has increased from 3 hours 31 min. one year ago to 6 hours las month.

As of particular social networks, Facebook is quite strong in Spain, where 57% of net users visit this site at least once every month. Facebook’s reach is the widest in Italy, capturing two-thirds of the active unique audience in April 2010, making the site relatively more popular in Italy than in the three major English-speaking markets. Australia, the U.S. and the UK follow Italy with over 60% of active online consumers visiting the site. An average Spaniard spends 4 hours every month on Facebook.
