Varsavsky: "Jerry Yang is an insensitive person"

03/15/08
Talking about Yahoo's 'Toblerone Operation', Martin Varsavsky, Fon's founder, says that Jerry Yang is an "insensitive person". "Once I met him and I was surprised to see him talking so badly about his employees, especially the ones from Yahoo Music. I kept this confidential, but after reading this on the Financial Times, I can not stop saying it", Varsavsky explains.

The most voted blogs in Digg

01/17/08

As you know, we are using Digg as another ingredient of the algorithm of our world top blogs. We think it is one of the main tools to measure the influence of a blog, as it gives anybody the opportunity of voting particular articles. It is also very much related to current events. In fact, many of the most voted blogs in Digg during the last 30 days are political and current events blogs.

Impressed by Izaga's killing

06/06/07
I am shocked. Alberto Izaga, the Swiss Re's executive who just killed his daughter Janire, was a university mate. I studied my 5 years of Law and Business with him and he lived in the same town I did, Getxo. He did not go that much to class, but I remember him quite well. He was sympathetic and extremely intelligent. I can not understand what went through his mind in order to kill his daughter. Human beings seem to be too complexed.  (Read more!)

The "Five Things You Probably Don't Know About Me" Meme

12/15/06

Andrea Weckerle, who I met in Paris, just sent me a new written meme. I am supposed to fill it with 5 things you probably don't know about me. So here I am playing with it. Hopefully, I won't disclose so many things, as I am too shy.

LeWeb3: Was the Sarkozy's speech part of a viral marketing campaign?

12/14/06

If they wanted world bloggers to talk about LeWeb3, they got it!! More than 24 hours after the conference finished, LeWeb3 is the top search in Technorati, while Sarkozy and LeMeur-Sarkozy have also gotten into the top 15. I am starting to wonder if this is all part of a viral marketing campaign.

LeWeb3: The end... or the beginning

12/12/06

LeWeb3 is over. Great job of Loic Lemeur and the rest of organisers! I hope they get the energy for a new conference next year. Besides that, right at the end, Yossi Vardi (the founder of the company that made ICQ and later sold it to AOL) and Loic Lemeur presented what will become a new bloggers' movement: BloggersForABetterWorld (the domain name was bought by David Sifry but is not working yet). If you want to participate, you will have to place a logo on your website and write, on a weekly basis, a post about social responsibilty. "Something to make a better world, even if you wont't get any Google ads out of it", Vardi added. Tomorrow more...

LeWeb3: Is Loic Le Meur willing to become Minister of Technology?

12/12/06

Nicholas Sarkozy, who is running for the presidency of France, just gave a political speech in French here in Le Web 3. He is a great speaker and he said some typical political things, like "we want to protect P2P but also protect the authors". Uhm, it seems hard to do both things at the same time. He was received like a leader: lights, music, cameras, more than 20 journalists, etc. It is clear that he could become the next president, but what does this have to do with Le Web 3?

LeWeb3: Are bloggers the fifth power?

12/12/06

Loic Lemeur is obsessed with the idea that bloggers are the fifth power, that they are nowadays politically the most influential group. Yesterday he invited an international political especialist, Hans Rosling. And today the star was Shimon Peres, former prime minister of Israel. Politics was again the main subject. But is this what bloggers at the conference were expecting to hear?

Tim O'Reilly thinks blogs' role has been exaggerated

10/09/06

I spent quite some hours with Tim O'Reilly last Thursday in Bilbao and Vitoria, where he came to give a conference about Web 2.0. He has one of the clearest minds I have ever seen, together with Alvy from Microsiervos.

?? ??? ??Blog

05/10/06

I was astonished when I found today this blog in the the first position of Technorati’s ranking. And it’s not an error, but a graphic problem with the recognition of Chinese characters (my computer can't read them). So now a Chinese blog is the most linked blog in the world, even ahead of Boing Boing, the North American version of Microsiervos (or the other way round).
