Craig Newmark and Craigslist

04/16/08
It's one of the most impressive conferences I have ever been to. I am talking about Craig Newmark's talk about Craigslist during Kinnernet. Newmark is a real geek, a guy who loves what he does, even if he could get rich very fast. He does not code any more, but he keeps talking to his users. "The way we deal with our users is what makes us special", he explained.

What I learnt in Kinnernet 2008

04/16/08

I just arrived from Israel, where I could live my second Kinnernet experience. Just Amazing! I learnt quite some things over there, which I want to share here. First of all, I think that new developments on the Internet are stopping down. Why? Probably, the threatening crisis and the need to monetize everything, which is the new priority.

Music social network RedKaraoke gets 2 million euros in capital risk for its international expansion

Social networks or social platforms?

01/23/08

Blogging from DLD in Munich. The social networks panel was great, with all people (from Bebo, Facebook, Linkedin and Xing) basically saying the same thing: "We are building a platform, not a network". That is, they want to create the infrastructure (or the utility, according to Xing) so that software and content developers can add the local and personal flavour that is missing to them.

LeWeb3: Social networks up, Google down

12/16/07
Time to analyze what happened last week in Paris, where 2,000 people attended the largest European conference on Web 2.0, LeWeb3. We could all hear the word "social" everywhere, specially associated with network. Social networks are the new buzz words. Everything has to be social. At the same time, Google almost disappeared from the conference, though it was one of the main sponsors.

The most interesting things that I heard in Stream 2007

10/09/07
I attended Stream 2007 last week in Athens. This is an unconference organized by WPP since this year. I organized one of the discussions (on measuring the blogosphere) in which we had a very interesting conversation about Technorati and other tools. I also went to other discussions on social networking. These are the most interesting remarks I could hear and my thoughts about Web 2.0 after attending this event:

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt disturbed by social media

07/21/07
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt came to visit Bilbao three weeks ago. They just wanted to admire two Gehry's buildings: the Guggenheim Museum and the Wine Museum in Rioja, which are 100 kms away one from the other. Unfortunately for them, the GPS in their rented Mercedes did not work properly and they got lost in a small and ugly suburb of Bilbao. A street sweeper came to help. Brad and Angelina tried to pay him, as he was very helpful, but he just wanted a picture with the couple. Thanks to social media, this picture is now flying all around the Internet.  (Read more!)

Why didn't Panoramio win Startup 2.0

06/01/07
Last week we held Startup 2.0's final in the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Panoramio, which has just been bought by Google, was not among these projects. Nevertheless, it was among the 15 semifinalists. What happened?

Habitaquo is the most searched word in Technorati... for two days in a row

04/05/07
I am just impressed. Together with MediaContacts, We launched our viral marketing contest 3 days ago and had to find a word which did not exist before. We came out with 'habitaquo'. Immediately after publishing the word, hundreds of people started to register several domain names with the word and create blogs in order to position themselves in Google when searching 'habitaquo'.
